M Rathsack

M graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a degree in Visual Arts, emphasis in Ceramics. She worked in the field of outdoor education after college where she cultivated a great love and respect for nature. She now owns a business in Hendersonville, NC, M's School of Art, teaching art to children and adults. She's keeping busy with new hand-built tableware pieces, decorative raku pieces, and of course, dancing!

M has a great love for texture in clay, as found in her slab work. She uses a wide variety of objects, rollers, and handmade stamps to make patterns and repetitive impressions. Her favorite pieces to construct involve scraps cut from large slabs covered in layers of texture.

M also has a great love for raku pottery. The non-functional aspect of this clay form is exciting and unpredictable at times and gives M an opportunity to create art for the sake of art. The dynamic process of firing raku is also thrilling for M and her students and a great learning opportunity as well.
